PLACEKEEPING IN CHINATOWN - HERE TO STAY (A Multimedia Project)
Placekeeping in Chinatown - Here To Stay, a multimedia project will center the stories of people most directly impacted by displacement, with the long term goal of protecting and preserving our beloved neighborhood. This new initiative will be a bilingual multimedia project that will feature short video and audio testimonials from tenants who are directly impacted by displacement. Interactive media platforms like Augment Reality and online mapping will bring the stories of resilience and resistance from people directly impacted by displacement, evictions and gentrification to viewers. It’s not just about preserving the facade of buildings but about keeping cultural memories associated with a place alive, local businesses and community centers open and keeping tenants who have raised their families in their homes. This project will also highlight the organizing history and building campaigns of CTU.
On My 26th we hosted an Open Studio as a part of our Fourth Arts Blocks’s (FAB) 2018 Artist in Residency. Visitors got a sneak peek at our new work-in-progress project, “Here To Stay: Placekeeping in Chinatown”
